Designer Statement

Graphic Design is everywhere, ranging from logos and posters to road signs and billboards. It is utilized and seen in everyday life, even if someone does not realize it. Starting out at Morehead State University as a painter, over time I found ways to incorporate my styles and techniques from physical media into the digital realm, inevitably sparking my passion for the Graphic Arts. When working with design, I tend to focus heavily on the marketing aspect by creating logos and advertisements, establishing new branding identity and layout, as well as various other forms of visual graphics. With this, my style does range in different ways to captivate diverse consumers through by being a flexible and efficient designer.

 

For the past four years, I have developed new skills in my graphic design courses, preparing me for real world projects. I have gained certifications in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign while currently working toward getting certified in Adobe After Effects. As a designer, I am strongly motivated in my work, heavily communicative with my clients and coworkers, and open to accepting feedback to help myself grow and become a better artist. Saul Bass has been a heavy inspiration for my work and my thought processes. His usage of minimal design and modern styles have helped me develop the design style I use today. The works of Zbigniew M. Bielak as well as Simon Prades. Both use a more illustrative and painterly approach to their work and have given me the courage to create new and uncommon forms of design within my own pieces.

 

In my day-to-day life, I am constantly researching and learning new techniques, reading magazines, educating myself through books and articles, and keeping up-to-date on the evolution of design and how it is ever changing. I follow what is current through social media and blogs on graphic design websites, then incorporate these ideas into my own style. Overall, I strive to communicate effective design with thoughtful knowledge of my clients, immersing myself within each project to create successful designs that everyone will enjoy.
